Here’s the next best thing to a soda tax: a sign telling teenagers that they’ll need to jog for nearly an hour to burn off that soda or other sugary drink. A study that introduced these signs to Baltimore corner stores saw teenage purchases drop by 50%!

For all those who say that calorie count signage doesn’t work, this study is for you. These researchers had a neat twist — not only post the number of calories per bottle, but drive home the implications of that number in concrete terms that these teens understood and assimilated.

Great study, provides hope that we can change behavior for those most at risk of the obesity epidemic.
