This holiday, share concern and voice support

When we get together with loved ones, both family and friends this holiday season, consider those you know who
might be at risk of obesity or overweight. For people with whom you have a loving and trusting relationship, it may be possible to broach the topic of their weight in the context of celebrating the season. Many people are concerned about friends and relatives who are overweight and at risk for metabolic, cardiovascular, and other diseases as a result, but they shy away from talking about it for fear of offending them or out of their own discomfort. A recent survey out of the UK highlights this challenge:

The survey found that while 59% of people worried that a loved one’s excess waistline would lead to serious health problems, too many would shy away from telling them their concerns for fear of hurting their feelings.

More here.

Who are you concerned about this year — a parent? A sibling? A spouse? Consider taking the first step and let that person know it support them and want them to be around to celebrate many more holidays to come.
